The name is genius, Moonlight sonata basically meaning moonlight solo, the piano representing the moonlight. Its not supposed to be sad, but like the moon although beautiful and bright, its typically seen in darkness. The piano does a great job representing this duality between light and dark.

I think the general process of listening to the Moonlight Sonata is gradual. I believe that upon first hearing of it, everyone thinks of the the first movement. Then, once you learn about the the third movement, you immediately take up it as the best movement. This is the same general phase people start listening to Chopin's Etudes and pieces along that line. But the more and more you listen to classical music and the more you learn about it, the more you appreciate the first movement. While the third movement is great, it lacks the genius of the first movement. We all remember the first movement for our first listening, but the more you listen to it, the better it gets.

222 years after creating this sonata…. I have resonated with the movements throughout my whole life, especially the 1st and 3rd. As 2023 ends it brings me to tears… makes me weep… Through the worst parts of my life I have always felt like this song has described the pain, hopefulnes, mourning and loss. May my 24th year on this EARTH bless me and everything around us. ✌️
